AFA - April 2008 - Normandy trip: Day 1

We accompanied John's Boy Scouts of America trip to a Trans Atlantic Council Camporee held every three years at the Normandy beaches. The council extends across the European countries from the Eastern countries like Austria and Hungary, to the Norwegian countries, to Spain and the UK. The boys are primarily children of American families living abroad.
The trip started at 5:30 AM on a bus to Portsmouth. That was about a 90 minute ride. Once there, we proceeded to the ferry terminal and got on the boat above. The bus drove right on to the boat! All were very excited about the boat ride. The boat was massive, with room for 600 vehicles and accommodations for 2200 passengers. There were restaurants, two movie theaters, cabins to sleep in, TV, bars, and a video arcade. The ride from the UK to France was 6 hours. And to top it all, as you can see in one picture, the company was called "Brittany Ferries", so our daughter Brittany felt very special.
